Roberta is a founding member of the City Branch of the PLN, and is currently Co-Convener of PLN National Council and City Branch. In her capacity as Events Coordinator in 2013, she played a pivotal role in organising the PLN Annual Conference. Roberta was awarded Law Student of the Year in the 2013 Lawyers Weekly Women in Law Awards.

Admin Officer: Jialing Chen

Jialing is currently in her final year of a JD at Monash University after completing an Arts degree. She has been involved with the Progressive Law Network since 2012, is Secretary of the National Council and a City branch member. Jialing is interested in public law and enjoys her work as a paralegal at the Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.

Finance: Katia Lallo

Katia completed her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2010 and is in her final year of the Monash Juris Doctor. Katia is a former Parliamentary intern; she has worked for the Castan Centre for Human Rights and as an Independent Person for YRIPP. She currently volunteers for the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel and the Darebin Community Legal Centre. Katia worked alongside her amazing PLN colleagues in 2012 to start the new City Branch and acted as the co-convener with Olivia McMillan until 2013. She hopes to spend 2014 writing a thesis on community self-governance with regards to animal and environmental rights.

Careers Officer: Penelope Swales

Penelope Swales completed her law degree in 2013. She has a long history of working in community organisations and is a founding member both of PLN National and PLN East, as well as a regular volunteer at Springvale Monash Legal Service and Monash Oakleigh Legal Service. She was the Events Coordinator for the PLN’s inaugural conference, and has been Careers Officer since 2011. In her time as Careers Officer she secured funding for, developed and published the PLN’s popular Public Interest Law Careers Guide, in partnership with the Castan Centre for Human Rights Law. She is also a member of the Alternative Law Journal committee. In her other life, she is a musician, wine-make and dog lover.

Publicity Officer: Emma Palmer

Emma just completed an Arts & Law Degree at Monash University and is particularly interested in human rights, refugee law, workplace rights and employment law, discrimination law, and ensuring the accessibility of the justice system. After first becoming involved with CLCs through the Professional Practice course offered at Monash, Emma now volunteers fortnightly at Springvale Monash Legal Service as a caseworker, and has also worked and studied at JobWatch. She has also worked in the private sector as a law clerk and paralegal.

Sophie joined the Progressive Law Network to complement her law studies with practical and positive contributions to the community. She is a founding member and current Co-Convenor of the City Branch and National Events Coordinator, leading the collaboration on the 2014 annual conference.
